Lake of the Woods walleye fishing is outstanding. It is the number one primary fish on Lake of the Woods. Walleyes are original to the lake. The most sought after fish on Lake of the Woods is the walleye. Here are some walleye fishing tips. Early spring is time for fishing deep, to depths upwards to 50'. The most successful approach to catching walleye in early spring is using a 3/8 oz jig tipped with a minnow. As challenging as it is, it can produce great fishing. Spring time walleye fishing can be the most productive - fishing some have only dreamed of. Fishing shorelines in 1-7 feet of water using a jig and minnow or jig and a leech. Another successful technique is shallow water crank baits eg (storm hot and tots, rapala, husky jerks, rapala shad rap, mepps spinners)

Summer time walleye fishing is typically done on humps at 15' to 30'. We find using a jig and a minnow with a snap swivel or barrel swivel technique the most effective. Fall walleye fishing resembles spring fishing, they move just off their spring shallow spots to bays and inlets. Again the most effective technique is a jig and a minnow.

The season for walleye starts on the third Saturday in May and closes on April 15th. For non-residents the limit with a full license is two a day and 4 in possession. With a conservation license it is two a day and two in possession. Also, you can only keep one walleye over 18.1 inch long.
