Lake of the Woods is one of the few Lakes in Northwestern Ontario that has Largemouth Bass fishing. The population of Largemouth Bass is abundent and growing every year.
LARGEMOUTH BASS
Although largemouth bass fishing on Lake of the Woods is not well known in northwestern Ontario, they are found in large number on Lake of the Woods.
Early spring they are moving from deep water to mouths of bays. Recommended artificial lures, eg ( crank baits, shallow and deep runners)
Spring they are found on spawning beds in shallow bays with preferably sandy bottoms. We use soft jerk baits eg. ( berkly jerk shad, zoom fluks, or use a lipless crank bait like rapala rattlin rap, and for live bait us a jig with a leech)
Summer they are found shoreline under fallen trees and weedy bays and points or reefs. this time of year we use spinner baits, buzz baits, flippen jigs and top water baits like skitter pops or chug bugs and soft jerk baits.
Fall time is when those big hogs seem more abundant. Now to have success you need to fish on the mouth of shallow bays on reefs and points. In fall just about all artificial and live baits work well. Season is all year Jan 1-May 31 with a full license you can keep 4 a day and 4 in possession and with a conservation license you can keep 2 a day and 2 in possession all fish must by under 13.75" June 1-30 all catch and release July 1-Dec 31 with a full license you can keep 4 a day and 4 in possession and with a conservation license you can keep 2 a day and 2 in possession. There is no size limit at this time. All bass possession are in combination of largemouth and smallmouth.
